- A simple interpreted server-side scripting language. It is most useful for including the contents of files in web pages, using its
#includedirective. This could be a piece of code throughout a site, such as a page header, a page footer, or a navigation menu. In order for a web server to recognize an SSI-enabled HTML file, either the filename should end with a special extension, by default .shtml, .stm, .shtm, or the execution bit of the file needs to be configured accordingly. SSI also contains control directives for conditional features as well as directives for calling external programs. ← Wikipedia
