- A level of software testing in which individual components or services are combined and tested as a group to verify that they interact correctly. It sits above unit testing in the test pyramid and may involve real or simulated dependencies such as databases, APIs, or third-party services. The goal is to surface defects in the interfaces and interactions between integrated units that unit tests, by design, cannot detect.
